LIVING WITH OBSTETRIC AND TRAUMATIC FISTULA: ETHIOPIA
Working with women shunned and isolated due to the stigma of living with traumatic and obstetric fistula. Goal is to develop a greater understanding of the psychosocial issues associated with fistula and how to address them.
LIVING IN FEAR OF NATURAL DISASTERS: INDONESIA
Working with school children, their parents and teachers who suffered the effects of the Yogyakarta earthquake and who continue to live in fear of natural disasters. Goal is to develop a greater understanding of the relationship between trauma exposure, parenting, and post-traumatic psychological distress in children.
CHILDREN ASSOCIATED WITH FIGHTING FORCES
Working with former child soldiers, their families and their communities. The goal is to develop a research and service project that will address the question of how best to help rebuild the social structures and psychosocial support necessary to heal.
On May 1st 2008 PBB released a report entitled: Psychosocial Adjustment and Social Reintegration of Children Associated with Armed Forces and Armed Groups: The State of the Field and Future Directions. The report was prepared by Theresa Betancourt and members of the Research Program on Children and Global Adversity at the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights in the Harvard School of Public Health, on the behalf of PBB. This report served as a background document for PBB's work in the area.
IMMEDIATE POST-DISASTER INTERVENTION STUDY: UNITED STATES
A research study focused on testing the effectiveness of an intervention delivered in the immediate aftermath (less than two weeks) of a natural disaster. Goal is to develop local capacity to respond to the impact of natural disasters on vulnerable populations and assess the effectiveness of an immediate-aftermath response in these populations.
